A
REAL HOME IMPROVEMENT
The homeowner's purchased
this 1920’s bungalow style home in 1998 with true vision and a phased
remodeling approach. Much of
the first two phases of remodeling the home had been accomplished by the
homeowner, through ‘sweat equity’.
However, many of the modifications made to the kitchen, by previous
owners, resulted in a space that lacked natural light,
pipes that froze in Winter, and sliding doorways covered with
transoms. The wife, Megan,
described the kitchen as “dysfunctional, awkward and dumpy.” And, the
husband, Michael, knew that his handyman talents wouldn’t get this phase
of the remodeling done, without professional help.
So, the homeowners contacted Zwingelberg Enterprises, Inc. to help
them transform their visions into reality.
"Shane was able to take
my
husband Michael’s visions, and meld them with a functional, practical
plan," noted Megan.
The adjoining space was opened up by removing walls and building
a small addition. The wall between the mudroom and kitchen was
removed to create a larger and more open kitchen space. There was an
abundance of plumbing and radiators that needed to be moved in order to
create the current look. The original radiators were replaced by
using space saver toe kick radiators with fans. The old and worn floor
framing was replaced to create a more stable structure.
While creating their
new kitchen, the homeowners wanted to keep the theme and flow of the
rest of the bungalow style house. So, they chose a Maple Wellborne
cabinet and earthy granite. The island; however, is very unique. The
main island top is the earthy granite with a black bar top which
provides a dramatic contrast. The sink, which was once on the back wall
in an inconvenient spot, was moved to the island for maximum efficiency.
The homeowners are
elated with the finished product, “In four short months, Shane and his
crew were able to transform a dumpy old kitchen with an awkward layout
and a barely functional infrastructure, into a shining jewel that
finishes off what has been an eight year process, in grand style.
Neither of us could have been happier with the final result.”
